Micro Experience
The need to make is what makes us.
Once you learn not to crush creations with your giant fingers, Micromagnets are undeniably enjoyable. Like other magnet spheres, Micromagnets have unique and inimitable characteristics so valuable in research, teaching, tactile therapy, and art. Creative energy is flame that can be stoked bigger, or wasted away.
A busy mind will see 432 Micromagnets as a great short-term imagination outlet in the workplace. A focused spirit with a set of 1728 Micromagnets will find countless hours of challenge, and a smart medium of creative expression.
Magnetic Field Viewer
For use as a Micromagnet separation tool and also as a magnetic field viewer.
The thin film will appear lighter when magnetic field lines are parallel to the film, and darker when magnetic field lines are mostly perpendicular to the surface.
Do NOT use the MFV card for separating full size magnet spheres like Zen Magnets. The green film consists of tiny ferromagnetic oil cells, which will rupture from the pinching pressure of typical magnet spheres. Do not fold or crush the MFV card.
Vs. 5mm Magnets
"What are these? Magnets for ants?"
Those experienced with 5mm magnets (Zen Magnets, Buckyballs, Neoballs, etc) will transition to 2.5mm Micromagnets relatively painlessly. Initial reactions range from pleasant surprise to feeling constrained. Greater mobility and lower price are obvious benefits.
Some manipulation techniques, such as pinching, won't be possible. Fingernails and good near vision are strongly recommended. Most of the same structures are possible, however construction will be more difficult with Micromagnets. Shapes once challenging are now frustratingly difficult; what was once frustrating is now nearly impossible.
THE BATTLE CONTINUES
Regulatory Battle
The battle is NOT over.
We've had the most success fighting a CPSC of any company in over 30 years, and while we couldn't afford to keep fighting the Zen Magnets ban, the federal ban is still being challenged by the NCLA. Current magnet ban status available at www.magnetsafety.org.
Although Micromagnets fall below the 'Hazardous Magnet' strength definition recognized by the CPSC and ASTM, our position on high powered 5 magnet set ban remains. The CPSC's attempt to remove proper recreational magnet spheres from the US market for all ages, in all states, is still disproportionately irrational regulation championed by unelected regulators, based on dishonest data and baseless assumptions, to create unclear, ineffectual rules, despite the greatest historical public opposition.
Meanwhile Europe is still laughing at the US for banning Kinder Eggs.
Zen Magnets
Where to find Zen Magnets and other 5mm spheres.
As of 2020, we are no longer able to sell 5mm Zen Magnets and Neoballs.
It's like we're here discussing mastery and technique with an intelligent community about a high skill hobby-craft, then nanny takes our precision scissors, and says we're only allowed children's safety scissors.
"Why doesn't the US CPSC want me, as a responsible adult, to prevent obtaining proper 5mm magnets for myself?" Good luck getting an answer from anybody on that one. Does that make you sad? Perhaps you should go skiing, or go jump on a trampoline, or go ride a motorcycle to the liquor gun store instead.
