What this means
Intraset compatibility is guaranteed. That is, magnets from within a set will have similar size, and work well. We’ve made this calculator to approximate compatibility across sets, depending on the number of sets purchased.
Since they are not stored in complete random order at the warehouse, your odds of receiving similar sets is boosted by a conglomeration factor.
Sheen Similarity – Refers to the chance that every purchased set shares similar visual sheen. This is aesthetic and doesn’t affect function. A Smooth means over 95% of the magnets in the set have a glossy coating. Matte means over 95% of magnets in the set have a non-glossy frosted coating. Mixed means a mixture of glossy, and magnets that weren’t smooth enough to be considered glossy, though not necessarily a full Matte coating. You’ll know if you have a full Matte coating if your breath at close range doesn’t make them look more clouded.
Compatibility – This is the chance that the average magnet dimensions in every purchased set lands in the same size band. Size compatibility does affect function, as magnets of differing sizes will not behave consistently if mixed, and are hard to unmix.
| Size | Mean Diameter | Intraset Tolerance |
| Undersize | 2.47mm ± 0.0075mm | ± 0.015mm |
| Nominal | 2.515mm ± 0.0075mm | ± 0.015mm |
| Oversize | 2.53mm ± 0.01mm | ± 0.015mm |
Identical Qualia – Refers to the chance that both sheen and size match across every set.
This calculator is to give you an idea of the approximate odds, based on the thousands of sets of Micromagnets we’ve witnessed. It’s by no means a guarantee.
